Ready or Not || Guest post by Brooklyn

I don’t like talking in front of people. I don’t get where I am going to vomit when I get in front of people, but I still don’t like it. My voice gets really shaky when I read aloud a long bible verse. I often times go completely blank in the middle of a prayer. But what I have come to realize is the more you try, the better it gets. It becomes easier. Last summer I went to church camp for a week. When we got back our youth leaders asked us to get up and tell about our experience. They said we didn’t have too, but I felt like I needed too. I then for a solid week straight sat in my room and practiced what I was going to say. When the Sunday night came we all walked up on stage and sat where the choir would normally sit. A few people went and then it was my turn. With butterflies in my stomach I got up, grabbed the microphone and started. And then all of a sudden, I went completely blank.  So I repeated my last sentence thinking surely it would come to me. But again blank. I froze, looked down at my paper that I had written and found my spot. I finished very quickly from there and walked back to my seat. And guess what I did? I cried. I couldn’t hold back the tears.

I was embarrassed and relieved that it was over all at the same time. I just couldn’t believe after all that practicing that I went —blank--. I think a lot of us use the excuse that we’re too afraid to get up in front of a crowd and talk. But you can, and yes sometimes you do go blank. But through all the embarrassment you’re going to be ok, it is not the end of the world.  And for the people who are terrified of praying, reading, or witnessing in front of people there is a bible verse that you may want to look up: Exodus 4:16. I don’t know about you, but I want to make a difference in somebody’s life. I want to be available for God to use me. Whether that be witnessing to somebody, giving a testimony, or simply God using me right now to write this guest post. Britt Nicole has a song titled Ready or Not that talks about shining God’s light. This is what the chorus says:

"Ready or not
Here here here I come
I'm about to show you where the light comes from
Oh, oh, oh ready or not here here I come
This is who I am
I won’t hide it
I'm a take it all over the world
To the young to the old every boy and girl
Ready or not here I come
I'm a show the world where the love is"

What if we had this goal to strive for? What if we all woke up every morning saying to ourselves “Ready or not here I come?” Do you know how angry this would make Satan, but how happy it would make God? Just think about this, let it soak in. What if God used you? You can make a difference. So come on guys let’s all say “Ready or not, here we come!”

Great post Brooklyn. I am also the worst with public speaking, but unlike you facing it I absolutely avoid it at all costs. I remember in uni if the course had to have a presentation I would not take it.
