I'm Currently Reading...Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (Part Four)

Part Three:  A lot of random stuff happens in this part, which I had completely forgotten.  Scarlett does desperate things in an attempt to pay the taxes on Tara, and becomes even more and more unpopular with her friends.

Will informs Scarlett that she must find some way to pay the taxes on Tara.  Scarlett has a talk with Ashley, and a lot of things are said that shouldn't have been.  Scarlett goes to Atlanta to find Rhett, knowing that she will do absolutely anything to get the money from him  When she finds Rhett, he is in jail, and he refuses to give her the money.  Scarlett meets Frank Kennedy on her way home, and Scarlett devises a way to marry him for his money regardless of her sister Suellen's feelings for him.  Distracted by Scarlett's feminine charms, Frank does indeed marry her.  Frank becomes sick with a cold, and Scarlett begins to check over the account of the shop he owns.  She sees that many customers have not paid their money,  so she takes over his business.

With a loan from Rhett, Scarlett starts a sawmill.  This is very unpopular with the people of Atlanta, as they feel it is unladylike.  Frank becomes embarrassed but, fortunately for him, Scarlett becomes pregnant and cannot run the mill.  Later, Gerald dies and Scarlett returns to Tara for the funeral.  At the funeral, she convinces Ashley to run part of her mill.  Ashley and Melanie move to Atlanta.  One evening when Scarlett is returning from the mill, a black man and another white man try to rob Scarlett, scaring her half to death.  If it hadn't been for Big Sam who happened to be passing by, there is no telling what would have happened to Scarlett.  Big Sam takes her home, and Scarlett discovers later that night that Ashley and Frank, who apparently had been part of the Ku Klux Klan, have gone to kill the black man who assaulted her.
Frank is killed in this process, but Rhett saves Ashley and many of the other men.  Rhett proposes to Scarlett, and she agrees to marry him.
This was a pretty good part.  I liked Frank - I thought he was really sweet and caring.  I don't like the whole romance with Ashley, though.  I like Rhett better than him.  I also thought that Part Five was a lot more interesting, although this one was better than Part Three.  To be honest, I've already finished Gone With the Wind, so I'm technically not "currently" reading it.  I've started on Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke, but I don't know if I'll do a "currently reading" post on this

This has to be a really long novel. I've only ever seen the film but the story itself isn't my favorite.
